Evesham Township Plans to Preserve and Conserve Open Space

Open space being preserved and conserved in Evesham Township

A list of 221 properties totaling 20% of the acreage of Evesham Township potentially could be used for recreation or preserved for open space, according to the Township’s draft open-space plan.

That draft plan — the Open Space & Recreation Plan of April 6 — will be considered on Thursday evening at a Planning Board public hearing. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

Of the 19,000 acres in Evesham, about 3,877 acres, or 20% of the total, are owned by public entities. Most of it is owned by the Township, although Burlington County, the state and other entities own some, according to the report.

Plans for Stores and Offices on Former Morssion’s Garden Center Site

A proposal to build a six-store shopping center and two-story office building on the site of the former Morrison’s Garden Center at the intersection of Tuckerton Road and Old Marlton Pike in Evesham is scheduled to go before the Planning Board on December 15.

One of the stores would be a Dunkin’ Donuts-style restaurant with a drive-through lane, according to the developer’s plans on file with the Township.

Property owner Tuckerton Developers LLC of Medford would build the 9,750-square-foot strip of stores and the 14,450-square-foot office building.

Tuckerton Developers is primarily owned by Gary F. Gardner of Medford and Andrew Crossed and Richard Crossed, both of Rochester, New York, according to the developer’s application filed with the Township. Gardner operates Gary F. Gardner Inc., a residential and commercial construction company based on Gravelly Hollow Road in Medford.

Golf rounds, driving range set records last year at Evesham’s Indian Spring municipal golf course

Evesham Township officials reported that business is booming at the Indian Spring Golf Course this week.

The municipally owned course in 2021 set records for the number of rounds played and buckets of balls hit on the driving range.

Golf course usage was so good last year that the course, which has separate finances from the Township’s budget, did not need its annual allocation from the Township’s Open Space fund for 2021, Township Council members were told at Wednesday night’s meeting.

Last year was the first time since 2013 that an Open Space allocation to help pay the bills was unnecessary and no allocation is included in the new budget, which was unveiled at the Council meeting. The transfer from the Open Space fund last year would have been $211,000.
